The Love Files
Our story, told properly — with a few answers to the Experience hiding in plain sight. Anything marked with a little gold ✦ is worth remembering…

How it started
The very first time I laid eyes on Afua was at Action Chapel✦, when her sister was trying to set Afua up with my brother — ironic, I know. I didn’t know then, but God had a beautiful plan to make us cross paths again at Ashesi, where I spent months✦ getting her to notice me as anything more than her sister’s friend.

The Ashesi Years
Long before campus life, Toby and I had unknowingly been part of “award winning” dance groups✦ that later became a bonding point for us. At Ashesi, our story picked up speed. We barely spoke in freshman year, first semester, but by ASC week in second semester, Toby asked me to be his twin for twin day✦ — and that’s when we really started talking.
He would walk me to class, ask to study with me, make us watch the stars, and even had me eating cereal with him at 4am because of how long we would spend chatting.

The Spiritual Experience
It’s no secret that Afua and I formed our relationship on the foundations of Christ Jesus and what He intended for marriage. We believe that God’s purpose for our being together is to inspire other young couples to know God and love each other the way God designed.
Our path has by no means been a straight one, but a musician once said “crooked sticks draw straight lines, just look at me”. As you support us, we pray you are inspired to love your friends, partners and family members more intentionally and more hopelessly romantically.

Would You Marry Me?
In the years leading up to my Toby proposing to me, I had my fair share of moments when I knew I wanted to be this man’s wife. During one of them, I cried bitterly (definitely not one of my demure moments 😂) over my school capstone project, and not once did Toby waver in his presence. He just sat, holding me—still and patient.
Days turned into years as we built our companionship and our certainty of finding forever in each other. I can’t believe I almost missed one of the best memories of my life when I initially decided not to take a walk along the beach✦, which ended up being where he proposed (to be fair I was pretty tired and I told him we had the rest of our lives to take walks at 5 AM 🙃).
Studied up? Prove it.
